A few years ago I was invited to be in a pilot for a TV show. It was going to be my first full day on set. The director had warned me, “Gina, this is going to be a very long day. It’s hard work. I hope you’re up for it.”

I arrived a bit nervous at 8am to find the director and producer setting up equipment. Catering had been served, the sound and lighting crew was taping down cords, the set decorator was adjusting props, assistants were scurrying around…and the hair and makeup team was waiting—for me!

Yes, it was a good 10-hour day (I personally had a blast), however it was a BREEZE compared to my average day as an entrepreneur. The massive ah-hah that I walked away with was that unlike in my business, on set, I got to be just the talent.

As entrepreneurs (or solopreneurs) and company owners, we have to fill all of the roles until we have a team who can. To begin, WE are the director, producer, writer, caterer, and lighting crew. Of course performing all of these roles maxes out our days and often leaves us in overwhelm, or at least with an extra wrinkle. My best kept secret for taking care of YOU while you start or grow your business is hiring a personal assistant…TODAY!

pa-quoteRunning household errands, paying bills, filling the fridge, cleaning the house, making the bed, picking up the birthday present (or even ordering it online)—all of these distractions can add up, consuming our thoughts and limiting our creative capacity.

It’s okay to let go of life’s little responsibilities. To succeed as an entrepreneur, you need as much time and energy as possible to focus on your vision. You may think of having a personal assistant as an impractical luxury, but I’ve found that hiring the right PA can make all the difference in taking your business to the next level. It’s like having another set of hands, eyes, ears—and even another mind! Need extra hours in a day? This is where they’re dwelling.

Chances are your picture of success includes not just a meaningful career, but also a fulfilling home life, happy relationships, and time for your passions. As the pace of life increases and your business grows, you’ll find that a PA is an invaluable asset, allowing you to succeed in all aspects of life with grace and abundance. Still not convinced? Here are my five reasons why a personal assistant is no longer a luxury, but the new necessity.

Your Hours
are Finite

One of the challenges of being self-employed is that you have a finite amount of hours and an infinite amount of things you could do. You have to use your time wisely. Think carefully about where your resources would be best spent, and make a list of your top priorities. Chances are it won’t include menial tasks like running errands and researching social media data. Outsource any work that doesn’t make the cut. Over time your assistant will become like a buffer, filtering out anything that isn’t a good use of your time and freeing up much needed mental space.

Creating Accountability Will Up Your Productivity

If you’ve ever had an exercise or mastermind partner, then you know how powerful it is to have another person checking in with you when you’re working towards a goal. In managing your schedule, a personal assistant will be responsible for making sure that tomorrow doesn’t turn into next week. It’s amazing how creating a structure for accountability can greatly increase your productivity and focus.

You’ll Be Able to Do More of What You Love

To me, Divine Living means having the freedom to do what you love as often as you can. I love to travel, but I don’t like sorting out flight and transportation arrangements. I love dining at beautiful restaurants, but researching new hot spots and making reservations is not a good use of my time. My PA does everything from liaising with company staff, to booking trips and organizing events. Having an assistant that’s able to handle a dynamic environment, grasping all projects big and small, will free up time for you to create your own version of Divine Living.

You Can Afford it if You Start Small

Feel like you just can’t afford it? You can! There are many ways to ease into a full-time assistant and manifest this invaluable asset. Start with a virtual assistant, and then hire someone part-time at 5 -10 hours a week. Once you find the right fit, you’ll know. Suddenly you’ll be so busy succeeding in your business that you’ll find yourself thinking, “how could I NOT afford this?”

It’s Natural and Beneficial to Need Support

Women are social and collective by nature, so we flourish when we feel supported. The more supportive people you have around you, the more success you will build in life. For me, having an assistant has been one of my keys to keeping my vibration high, allowing me to bring my A-game.
