Three Great Causes to Support
But wait—there is one more gift to give this season. Something perhaps you’ve been meaning to give all year.
And that is your support of a worthy cause.
It’s so important during this time of abundance to make a charitable contribution and give back to the community around you. I know in our hearts that we all seek to have an impact in the world, but sometimes we are so focused on our own causes, that we might not find the time to really research and get to know the organizations that need our help.
Over time you will definitely discover the issues and solutions you’re most passionate about. To get you started, I’ve put together three wonderful organizations that you should know. And believe me, you don’t have to make a $45 million donation to make a difference. We can all find $5 to give, some can find $500—the most important thing is just to do your part in creating peace and healing in the world.
1 Allies Against Slavery
I don’t think there’s a woman on the planet whose heart is not with the tens of millions of victims of sex trafficking. I was moved by author and advocate Brooke Axtell’s speech at this year’s Grammy Awards, and have since continued to support one of her key organizations, Allies Against Slavery. The forward-thinking non-profit works to develop holistic global solutions to trafficking, and is currently mobilizing for
their #SurvivorStrong15 campaign. Donations allow you to contribute directly toward rebuilding the lives of survivors with healing, education, professional mentorship, and support. Visit The Campaign page and see all the ways you can have a major impact on someone’s life this year.
Since opening its doors in 1962, St. Jude’s has helped push the childhood cancer survival rate from 20% to 80%. Children from all around the world have walked through its doors to receive groundbreaking, life saving treatments at no cost to their families. It’s amazing that we have a place where no suffering child is denied care, and that it’s funded by donations from people like you and me. The organization has so many ways to give and get involved, so visit their website and find what’s right for you.
I’m currently serving on the board of this great organization that works to strengthen grassroots non-profits working in at-risk communities. I’ve known Founder Richard Ramos personally and professionally for years now, and witnessed his major leadership in gang violence prevention. Rest assured that a donation to the Latino Coalition helps give voice to marginalized communities and transform lives.
