In the world of Divine Living and the closet of Gina DeVee—the word “Boho” does not rear its head very often. Sure, there are plenty of gorgeous caftans, cagey gladiators, and Pucci prints for days. And there are certainly nods to the glamorous decadence of the 1970s when Yves Saint Laurent hosted intimate gatherings on the roof of his flat in Morocco, but Boho style? Maybe not.

boho-1Even though Gina won’t be coveting a crochet knit tank from Free People anytime soon does not mean she won’t incorporate a bit of Bohemia into her most fabulous travel looks. Especially when she’s strolling the turquoise beaches of Tulum and dining in the jungle at Hartwood. When in Rome as they say—and when I force her to!

When you think about Tulum you think about the chic Bohemian lifestyle that’s become synonymous with this wildly popular destination. “Luxury meets laid back” in this bustling beach town and the scene is not only hot, it’s pretty darn haute too! So I decided there’s no better time or place to explore the best in Boho fashion.

These days Boho is less of a trend and more of a staple, especially in the spring and summer collections. Though Gina and I are never mad at a fur vest and a rich velvet something in the fall—trust.

No matter what your style personality, a dash of Boho can work in almost anyone’s wardrobe, as long as you put your special spin on it and own the look. For Gina, that means we take a more luxe approach and always err on the glamorous side—shocking, I know. For you, it might mean a floaty white maxi dress and a chic head scarf paired with your favorite slouchy bag. Choose your poison and do you, we won’t judge.

boho-2Boho styles are not only easy, breezy and wearable, they’re forgiving too, so no matter what shape or size you may be that day you’ll be confident and covered. They’re also the perfect pack for that chic Entrepreneur’s Escape you might be planning in the near future because they add lots of wow factor with little to no effort. And you never look like you’re trying too hard.

So what’s the story behind Boho? Well, here’s the short version. The height of Bohemian fashion was definitely in the late 60s-early 70s, but things resurged big time, as they often do in fashion, when Sienna Miller and Kate Moss lead the new Boho-Chic movement circa 2005 in London.

Suddenly, every It-girl in town was rocking the Boho trend, braiding their hair and coveting a date with Jude Law. There was also that one time the Olsen twins kept dressing like bag ladies, and not the 5th Avenue kind either….but I digress.

Since then, the obsession with Bohemian style has never really left the fashion scene, it’s simply evolved. And this evolution can be seen on the runways at Fashion Week season after season in some incarnation or another. Today Boho style has a much broader scope. It can be casual, beachy, or even downtown cool. And yes, you can always elevate things into something totally spectacular the way Halston, Gucci and YSL did in the 1970s.

So if you can’t beat em’, join em’ or at least dip your toes in the water and give it a try. To make things easy for you I’ve pulled together some Boho essentials you probably won’t want to be without on your next divine escape—enjoy!
