How to Follow Your Passion
& Find Your Next Big Move

What I now understand (and love!) about the entrepreneurial arena is that there are no limits, and that there’s always room for yet another player (aka me and you). In politics, a lot of candidates are vying for one spot and there are winners and losers. However in business there’s a place for all of us to express ourselves, make a contribution, and build something that will uplift people’s lives.

Now that Divine Living is so much more than me and my coaching services, lately I’m obsessed with the question: if there are no limits, what else do I desire to create?

For the immediate future, I’ve been curiously looking into new opportunities for greater impact, from apps to physical products that would enhance the brand and create a more immersive experience for our community. At the same time I’ve been thinking long-term, wondering how our company might grow even bigger than I ever thought possible.

mba-quoteHaving taken the passionate leap into publishing, it’s clearer now than ever that Divine Living doesn’t need to be restricted to what we’ve done in the past or what our expertise is in (this is code for, I didn’t know how to start a magazine and I did it anyway). A lot of times when we see entrepreneurs and companies branching out beyond their typical offerings, we imagine that they must know exactly what they’re doing, and I’ve been inspired to learn that that is rarely the case.

I was recently reading one of Donald Trump’s books, and he was reflecting on how he broke into golf courses. It wasn’t that he knew everything about the business or understood exactly how to go about it, it was just that he loved the game of golf to the point of obsession! So he followed his passion, found the absolute best experts in the field, learned everything he could, and now can say he owns some of the world’s greatest golf courses.

This story totally expanded my own thinking and got me inspired. My mind started to open up as I asked myself, what do I love, what am I obsessed with? And two things came to mind. First, hotels! I LOVE hotel living—it’s part of why I’m obsessed with traveling. Which brings us to number two: airlines! (Believe it or not when it’s a great experience, I love the flights too!) So why not have a Divine Living hotel or a Divine Living airline? Both expansions would be totally in line with how I want to play in the world and with what my brand is all about.

Of course I won’t be scouting my first hotel property tomorrow, but I know how important it is to keep a big business mindset as I move my company forward. Even if your business is just a start-up, you have to believe in your power to turn it into something massive. It’ll take the right collaborations to make it happen, and it’s up to you to put yourself in the game first. So how can you too work and play in this limitless space? Here are the top three elements that keep me thinking BIG:

1 An Elevated Scene
Living within a limitless vibration begins with the people you surround yourself with and the energy they bring to the table, so make a conscious effort to seek out those who are further along the path than you are. I hire high-end coaches and mentors, and join high-end communities where I can learn from people who know how to think big and have fun socializing with friends who are on a similar level. Being around their energy always opens my mind to what else is possible in business and life.

2 Committed Creativity
If you’re ready to commit to playing big in life, drop the idea that anything is too much for you. You might be prone to asking yourself: well who am I to create an app, open a restaurant, or launch a clothing line? Rather than focus on why you’re not qualified, think only about what you’d like to give. Remember that the people you admire who start things are typically taking a major leap, and they don’t necessarily know what they’re doing either! These days the only questions I ask myself are: is this on brand for Divine Living, is it something I’m truly passionate about, and will my community appreciate and value it. End of story.

3 Space to Grow
In the beginning of my entrepreneurial journey, I was spending a lot more time working in my business than on my business, which left me little space for growth. Getting that ratio down from 90/10 to 50/50 and now 20/80 has been a game changer, because it’s so essential to alwayskeep reading, learning, and opening my mind to new possibilities. I highly recommend that no matter where you’re at, you make time to prioritize reading—about business, branding, wealth consciousness, etc—so that you never stop expanding your vision for your potential impact.
