Why Women Entrepreneurs
Thrive With a Glamorous Change of Scene
One of the top questions people ask me is, “how do you stay at such a high frequency?” The answer is pretty simple: I set my life up so that I’m always excited about something.
Whether I’m looking forward to a week’s stay at the Riviera Maya, hosting a live event in Paris, or coming home to get creative with my team, there’s always a fresh adventure or project on the horizon. It’s what makes it easy to leap out of bed in the morning and—scratch that, roll out of bed, enjoy coffee, workout, and then make the day amazing.
For women entrepreneurs like us, I think one of the most important elements in keeping life exciting is making time for the occasional escape. For me, there’s no negative connotation to the word. It’s not about running away from your regular life, but about enjoying life and your freedom as a business owner.
Beyond the escape itself, I am lit up at every stage of planning my getaways! I love starting with a blank canvas, logging on to Pinterest and just exploring: where do I desire to go? Finding the destination that calls to me is a thrill that only grows as I fill in the details (have I mentioned how much I LOVE hotel living?!), and finally land ready to soak up every minute of this beautiful new experience.
I cannot overstate the benefits of exposing yourself to the unique energies of a new place! From Paris to New York to Bali, the world is home to so many different vibrations. It’s why I select specific destinations for my events and intensives, to support whatever needs to be learned and discovered. And it’s why I chose to
start 2016 from the Banyan Tree Mayakoba on the Riviera Maya, as a luxurious resort on a sandy beach (with the most lovely beach club) is one of my many genuine happy places.
I know that different cultures have different perspectives on the work-life balance. Americans typically have a live-to-work mentality, whereas in Europe the outlook is more work-to-live. No matter what ideas about how to make and spend money we grew up with, today as global women entrepreneurs, we have the opportunity to set a new example for ourselves.
It’s amazing how the path through life is not a set course as it once was. My grandfather for instance lived a pretty standard version of the American dream—he grew up middle class in Detroit, became a manager at Ford, worked until he could retire at 55, and only then went to go live the good life in Florida.
A lot of people still expect that this is how life should work, but today we don’t have to be bound to a factory or a cubicle for our whole lives and wait to enjoy ourselves later. We can make unlimited income, have an incredible level of impact in people’s lives, and live out our desire to experience the world. Spending time in a place that makes you really happy and letting go of your typical routine for four days, two weeks, or even a month can make all the difference in avoiding burnout, plus staying creative and motivated.
Entrepreneur or not, I think that every feminine woman understands at a deep level the value of stillness and time away from life’s usual responsibilities. It’s in those peaceful moments when we can just be rather than do that the new ideas flood in. Add an inspiring environment, and you’re all the more likely to step into the next best version of you. And that ladies, is the true power of escape.
