Variety is the spice of life—and something I’ve learned about myself is that I like a lot of spice. It’s why I travel so much, and even though I’ve figured out how to make the jet set lifestyle work for me and my business, it doesn’t always take an overnight flight to pull me out of my daily norm and into a new realm of possibility.

Whenever I’m craving a break from the status quo, Mexico has become one of my go-to getaways. I feel so fortunate to live in Southern California and have this beautiful country less than four hours away. It’s close enough for a quick trip, but far enough to experience a totally different energy.
I kicked off 2016 with two glorious weeks at one of my favorite places in the world, the dazzling strip of beach known as the Riviera Maya. Sinking my toes into the white sand, feeling the warm sun on my face and enjoying fresh local food wrapped in a hand-made tortilla, it was exactly the vibe I needed to start the year relaxed and strong.

Halfway between the major tourist hubs of Cancun and Tulum, the Riviera Maya offers a serene and luxurious escape into nature. In the midst of ancient Mayan ruins, lush tropical jungle, and one of the largest coral reefs in the world, I found plenty of opportunities for big adventures, spiritual connection, and sumptuous relaxation.

I know that entrepreneurs tend to be extremists—we like to give it our all when we’re at home behind our computers, and we like to bring that same energy to getting out there and exploring. However if we’re not conscious about it, I’ve seen how the scales can tip toward the former. When we get caught up in a work grind and close ourselves off to new energy, life can get very uninspiring very quickly.
