Perspective on My Favorite
Botanical Oils
For Jetsetting,
Chillaxing, and Feeling
Beautiful
s we discussed in past issues, I am a big believer of creating your entourage.
From building your business, to nurturing your spiritual self, we all need the best team possible when we are manifesting our passions and dreams.
As a transformational coach, my life of hosting live events and retreats for my clients around the world is a dream come true, and it requires a certain amount of self-care to keep up with. I am sure you can relate to getting sick on the road, dealing with jet lag, or even desiring a state of calm within the hustle and bustle.
While exercising, eating right, and journaling always help me stay healthy, I also practice using essentials oils for many benefits, even beyond aromatherapy.
Essential oils have been around for thousands of years and long accepted in the holistic world, but the scientific community has only begun to validate their usage for health and healing. If you are new to essential oils, they are the concentrated liquids distilled from plants—in layman’s terms, this means they are simply the purest form of the benefit of that plant.
The demands of being a lady boss can wear us down not only emotionally, but physically. I have found that having something nurturing like essential oils in my beauty bag is a glamorous way to apply self care, and I love that they are all benefit without any negative side effects. To help you start incorporating these fragrant natural therapies into your life, enjoy this easy guide to my favorite oils.

Application of Oils 101
Aromatherapy
Diffusing or inhaling oils is a great way to heal emotional stresses. You can simply hold a bottle a few inches from your nose, dab it on your neck or temples, rub it in your hands and breathe in, or enjoy it steamed in a bowl with hot water.
Directly to Skin
Unless noted, most oils can be directly applied to the area of concern without diluting. Applying directly to reflex points is also recommended (see reflexology chart below).
Digestion
Many oils, such as ginger and lemon, are safe to consume by adding just one drop to a glass of water, but we recommend consulting your physician first.
ORANGE
Calming & Uplifting

Use:
Sluggish Digestion, Anxiety, Fear, Insomnia, Nervousness
Properties:
Anticancer, Antidepressant, Antiseptic
The bright and refreshing scent of orange is just the thing to help you feel happy and alert. I especially like to take a moment to breathe it in before meetings to awaken my inner joy. When dealing with any fears or anxiety, it helps you get to a place of calm.
Immune Boosting

Use:
Canker sores, Fungal Infections, Viral Infections, Staph Infections, Colds, Pneumonia
Properties:
Antibacterial, Antifungal, Antiparasitic, Antiseptic
WARNING:
You should use a carrier oil such as coconut when applying to skin as it can cause irritation.
Let’s face it, how many of us can afford to get a cold or virus? When you travel and interface with people as much as we do, you need to keep your immune system protected and in tip-top shape. This is a great oil to diffuse in the office when cold season kicks in. You can also combine it with some coconut oil and dab it on your chest if you feel the first signs of illness.
Energizing & Cleansing

Use:
Alertness, Antioxidant, Asthma, Fatigue, Constipation, Congestion, Jet Lag, Headaches, Nausea, Muscle Aches, Throat/Sinus Infections
Properties:
Analgesic (pain relief), Antibacterial, Anti Inflammatory, Antiseptic, Antiviral, Invigorating
Peppermint is a great one to store in your travel tote. Even if you’re in first class, we can all experience jet lag and aches after a long flight. I like to use a little upon landing to perk up and face customs with a smile.
Relaxing & Healing

Use:
Allergies, Anxiety, Burns, Calming, Depression, Exhaustion, Inflammation Insomnia, Jet lag, Sleep Mental Stress, Relaxation, Sunburn, Wounds
Properties:
Analgesic, Anticoagulant, Antidepressant, Anti-fungal, Antihistamine, Anti-infectious, Anti-inflammatory, Antimicrobial, Antiseptic, Anti-regenerative, Sedative
Lavender is known for its deeply soothing properties. It’s lovely to diffuse as you draw yourself a bath, or to dab on your temples after an evening yoga practice. You might even want to keep some in your bed side table to still your mind before you drift off to sleep.
Digestion Boosting

Use:
Diarrhea, Gas, Indigestion, Nausea, Vertigo, Vomiting
Properties:
Antiseptic, Laxative, Stimulant
Ginger is of course zingy and delicious, and I love to add a drop to a glass of water with lemon to help promote good digestion. If you have a sensitive stomach this can be handy when trying new foods.
Purifying & Energizing

Use:
Air Pollution, Anxiety, Common Cold, Sluggish Digestion, Disinfectant, Energizing, Influenza, Purification, Uplifting, Stress
The fresh, purifying quality of lemon can be really nice after a work out, or when you’re detoxing after a big weekend. If you have oily skin you’ll also find the astringent properties super helpful.
Romantic & Hopeful

Use:
Aphrodisiac, Scarring, Skin issues, Wrinkles, Emotional Balance
Properties:
Antihemmorrhagic, Anti-infectious, Aphrodisiac, Sedative
Using rose oil to treat wounds or skin imperfections is a fragrant and luxurious way to take care of yourself. It’s also a wonderful scent to diffuse for a romantic evening at home with your love. For personal aromatherapy, it boosts self-esteem and promotes overall positive vibes.
Cold Busting

Use:
Addictions, Antioxidant, disinfectant, Metabolic Balance, Thyroid Dysfunction, Viral Infection, Wounds
Properties:
Analgesic, Antibacterial, Anti-fungal, Anti-infectious, Anti-parasitic, Immune Stimulant
Frankincense is also great to diffuse in the office when cold season rolls around and people start sneezing. Like oregano, its antiseptic properties wipe out germs in the air. If you do come down with a cold or allergies, inhaling it can help soothe respiratory symptoms. I also like it for a boost in focus.
Healing & Soothing

Use:
Addictions, Antioxidant, disinfectant, Metabolic Balance, Thyroid Dysfunction, Viral Infection, Wounds
Properties:
Analgesic, Antibacterial, Anti-fungal, Anti-infectious, Anti-parasitic, Immune Stimulant
This is a must-have oil when it comes to the multilayers of support you receive from clove. Any time I have a cut or an insect bite, this oil aids in fast healing. Its rejuvenating and stimulating properties are great for general skin care, while applying a little to your forehead is soothing for a headache.
Feminine & Powerful

Use:
Sensitive Skin, Feminine Emotional Support, Nervous Exhaustion, and Optimism
Properties:
Antidepressant, Anticatarrhal, Antispasmodic
This oil has been used by women for thousands of years as it’s known to increase intuitive powers and wisdom as well as inspirational relationships. It’s said to penetrate the deepest layers of the soul and open the doors for emotions in an uplifting way. This is a perfect Divine Living oil, aiding in confidence and supporting you to embrace your feminine power.
