I’m decidedly a classic-luxury kind of gal, and when it comes to hotels, I like them grand, traditional, and five star. While I do occasionally delight in the charm of a boutique hotel, you’re unlikely to find me anywhere too bohemian or minimalist.
However my hotel preferences are about much more than style. When traveling for work and play, there’s a level of service and amenities that women entrepreneurs like us need—i.e. a fast and reliable wi-fi connection, 24-hour room service, ample space, and all the luxurious comforts of home. It makes life on the road so much easier and more enjoyable, supporting us in doing our best.
Living in Santa Barbara, I often dart down to Los Angeles for anything from a week of meetings, shoots and events to a weekend of shopping and dining with Glenn. And whenever we do, our home-away-from-home is the Peninsula Beverly Hills—the only AAA Five Diamond and Forbes Five Star-rated hotel in Southern California.
The Peninsula is a global, iconic brand with a century of experience, 10 gorgeous hotels from New York to Shanghai (Glenn and I enjoyed our stay at the newly opened Peninsula Paris last summer), and a high-end celebrity clientele. Being in Tinsel Town, the Beverly Hills location is perhaps the most star-studded of them all, serving as the backdrop for many daily power lunches and exchanged business cards.
One of my favorite things about the hotel is that it has an intimate, bespoke feel, yet with all of the sweeping service you’d expect from a major brand. It’s in the heart of Beverly Hills, but it feels tucked away and hidden. The experience is just fabulous, from the moment you pull into the splendid circular driveway, to when you snuggle into the big fluffy bed after a glorious LA day. Read on for a closer look at all my favorite little details:
Sometimes I’m staying at a hotel and I feel like I’m constantly signing checks, fumbling with pens and doing math every time I order something as simple as two lattes. So I appreciate that the Peninsula has
done away with this—everything runs much more smoothly when I can take care of it all at once. It’s a subtle touch that shows me they’ve really gotten their client down.
It’s easy to feel like I’m home when I hear, “Welcome back Ms. DeVee.” I love being escorted to my room
by the bellhops in their crisp white uniforms, and finding sweet personal touches like the embroidered, monogramed pillow cases. Once the hotel even surprised me with a customized chocolate plate, using the Divine Living logo which they had pulled form my website!
I’m not the only one who’s always glad to wear a caftan to work, right? I love working from my own cabana at the Peninsula’s rooftop pool, enjoying a shake or a fruit plate and taking in the gorgeous views of Beverly Hills and the mountains. LA living at its finest!
You never know who you’ll run into in the lobby of the Peninsula! I’ve heard so many stories from people where a chance encounter here led to amazing business opportunities—and I’ve experienced the phenomenon myself. When you go to where you desire to be, you’re always met with what you’re seeking.
Everything in this hotel has been carefully considered. Elegantly done in grand European style, the suites feature plush couches you can really get comfortable on, the softest high-end linens, and stylish
marble baths stocked with the most beautiful products. I love how light and airy the rooms are, with french doors to let in plenty of warm California sun. Between the excellent restaurant, bar, spa, and gym, there’s no real need to leave the hotel, yet it’s always fabulous to snag a ride in their house Rolls Royce.
The Peninsula’s flexibility is key when it comes to hosting events, meetings and gatherings. Just ask and
they’re able to create any experience you desire, anywhere, from in-room spa services to special menus served by the pool. I’ve hosted entrepreneur retreats in their California Suite, one of my favorites, as well as their exclusive private villas. This custom feel is essential to the high-touch aspect of my brand.
The Peninsula has one of the best high tea programs globally. It’s served daily in the lobby, but you can
also have it privately catered anywhere in the hotel. During a recent stay, I gathered a few women entrepreneur colleagues I wanted to get to know for an intimate high tea in one of the villas. Whether you’re hosting colleagues or girlfriends, I think it’s a chic alternative to meals or drinks, and the Peninsula is fab at customizing the experience.
